TurboLERC

A clean-room, pure-Rust LERC codec engineered for massive raster-I/O throughput. TurboLERC is an independent implementation of the LERC raster-tile format (v1 and v2) written from scratch in Rust, with SIMD inner loops designed from first principles for peak memory bandwidth. It produces and consumes blobs that are bit-exact with the reference implementation on the wire, and it exposes the same C ABI — so anything that loads libLerc.* today can load libturbolerc.* in its place and get the throughput gain with zero code changes.

  • Encode wins are the headline: f32 lossless 1.87× faster than the scalar C reference, multispectral f32 8-band 2.13×, masked DEM f32 11.9× (256×256, Apple M3 Max).
  • Decode: v1 CntZImage at 2.71 GiB/s vs the reference at 1.73 GiB/s (+57%) on Apple Silicon; consistent wins across all other data types.
  • Bit-exact parity with the LERC reference on both encode and decode — verified on every SIMD backend for every release.
  • 8 platforms from a single release: Linux (x86_64 gnu/musl, aarch64), macOS (x86_64, aarch64), Windows (x86_64-msvc), WebAssembly (wasm32-unknown, wasm32-wasip1).

Free to decode, free to integrate

Once you have the library, decoding LERC blobs — from any supported language binding — requires no license and no runtime check. Every tile-consumer workflow runs unrestricted:

  • Decoding LERC v1 (CntZImage) + v2 blobs of any data type (i8/u8/i16/u16/i32/u32/f32/f64).
  • Reading masks, multi-band blobs, n-depth pixel vectors.
  • Inspecting metadata (get_blob_info, get_data_ranges, dimensions) without decoding the payload.
  • Integrating through GDAL, QGIS, ArcGIS JS SDK, rasterio, PDAL, Python / .NET / Java bindings — by loading libturbolerc.* in place of libLerc.*.

Encode — licensed

Producing LERC blobs requires a free license key from your customer portal account. That covers:

  • Lossless and lossy encoding across all 8 supported data types.
  • LERC v2 (current stable) and v1 (CntZImage, for ArcGIS JS SDK 4.x ElevationLayer interop).
  • Masked, multi-band, and n-depth encoding.
  • Full control over max_z_error, SIMD backend, and tile sizing.

Access

Sign in to the customer portal to download binaries, generate a license, and read the full documentation:

  • Download binaries — prebuilt static and shared libraries for every supported platform, plus the C header. Signed URLs, 15-minute expiry.
  • Full documentation — install guides, quickstarts in Rust / C / GDAL, API reference, integration guides for every third-party path (GDAL, QGIS, ArcGIS, rasterio, PDAL, Python, .NET, Java, ObjC, JS-WASM), performance tuning, and the license-activation flow.
  • License management — generate, view, and rotate license keys.
